Over 75% of the population of Nan Citron is illiterate, a handful having received any formal education and most only up to grade three. This rural farming community is hungry for education and employment, and TDRP is meeting their needs.
In 2017, TDRP began its first educational program, ASPIRE. Over 65 adult students have enrolled in one of the three levels to learn basic skills of reading, writing, and math. Many have obtained skills to be successful in writing their name for the first time. The success of ASPIRE has been incredible. One student, approximately 65 years old, states, "today, I was able to write my name for the very first time on a legal document."
In the Fall of 2019, TDRP will be open its newest location in Pignon, located in the Nord region of Haiti as well as the fourth level of adult education in Nan Citron where students will begin to learn English and advance mastery of skills.
