In August 2012, April Benson, founder and CEO of The Dirt Road Project, Inc., traveled to Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti, to assist in recovery efforts following the devastating earthquake of 2010. Impacted by the immense poverty, malnutrition, lack of schools and healthcare, and inhabitable housing, April returned to the US, vowing to create change for the people of Haiti. Thus, The Dirt Road Project was born.
The mission of TDRP is to empower under-served communities in achieving wellness and economic prosperity through sustainable opportunities. In Haiti, this will include healthcare, education, food and farming, and housing programs. TDRP is focused on building its first community of hope in Hinche, Haiti, population of approximately 50,000. TDRP first initiatives will be conducted in four phases over the course of five years with project completion expected in calendar year 2021.
While development is underway in Haiti, communities of hope will be springing up as well in Rochester, NY. A native Rochesterian, and mother of three children with special needs, April recognized the great need for sustainable housing for under-served populations in her own community. This initiative will include homes for the developmentally disabled, veterans, and single-parent families. The first home for the developmentally disabled is slated to open in Summer 2018.
We invite you to join Us at the Mill Creek Golf Course in Rochester New York on May 7th at 2:00pm for the first annual Dirt Cup. Did you know Haiti is the most impoverished nation in the Western Hemisphere with the average Haitian family of four earning approximately $1 per day. Did you know hunger and malnutrition are the main cause of death in Haiti, greater than HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis combined? Did you know 99% of Haitians earn less than $425 USD per year?
Did you know 11,000 persons with developmental disabilities await housing placement in New York? Did you know 1 out of 4 homeless persons is a veteran? Did you know 58% of single-parent households in Rochester, NY, led by women with children under the age of 18, live in poverty?
Despite these challenges, HOPE is being restored through initiatives of The Dirt Road Project and by compassionate partnerships with corporate sponsors, like YOU!
Your sponsorship changes lives, so set your legacy into motion today and leave a generational impact. Together, we can do so much!
On behalf of The Dirt Road Project, thank you for your generous donation!
